wins immediately rule

Post by Armses »

An interesting game, but marred by its "wins immediately" rule. In my opinion, a "wins immediately" rule in multiplayer games leaves a bad taste in players' mouths. Yes, I recognize that it is a design decision, but one that disappoints much of the time in multiplayer games. Other alternatives would be to let all players have the same number of turns, and have a hierarchy of tie-breakers in the case of tied points. Oh well.

For most games, I would agree with you. For Treos, I think this is negated by the fact that your position in the turn order is determined by the player choices. So if you and another player are both about to win, it's up to you to make sure that you choose a turn order card that will let you go first. Of course, you might not actually have the highest card, but that just means there's some luck involved too. But it's not like the (randomly-chosen) first player will always get an extra turn.

Agreed.
I enjoy the tension that comes from not having that safety net.
I'll add that the game is asymetrical by design: no two characters play the same. It adds depth to the design that the ending is asymetrical, too: not every player gets the same amount of full turns.
