Air & Ryanair

Post by Ze Monstah »

If the word to be guessed is "Plane", and the 2 clues of a person (3 players-game) are "Air" (the element) and a random fast-thought flying company that also happens to have "air" in it ("Ryanair"), should the 2 clues of that person be excluded like in the Japan-Japanese case?

Probably not, they have different meanings. There are plenty of synonyms for Ryanair that don't involve the word Air. Delta, BA, Emirates. It just happens that that airline contains the word air.

Whereas what else can you do for Japanese? You might even be able to substitute Japan for Japanese in a sentence and it still not lose any meaning. They both derive from the same idea. "it's from Japan" == "Japanese".

Thanks; I thought the same.

The "stickler for rules" argument. Seems like most games have them at some point in time. :x

Well, yes. And this is where it helps to be off-beat and clever simply to avoid duplicate answers.

BA does involve the word "air", but the existence of airlines whose names don't isn't an argument for "air" not clashing with "Ryanair": it's an argument for the player who gave those clues to be more creative.

I would toss out Nipponese & Japan since it's a language difference for the same root word.
