This is an epic feat so take your time. =)

I think we are many that happily await your completion when you are done and don't want you to rush things even though we want to play it today. ;)
You know what I mean. I've had my third edition unplayed for so long since it's hard getting to the table and finding players that are willing to devote som time and focus for a game like TI.

I will mostly see this as a way for me to learn the game so I can later teach the more dedicated gamers in my group.
And maybe get a few games per year here instead of 0 IRL games since I bought my copy. ;)

PS. Yes I know there is differences between 3:rd and 4:th edition.

I was looking for any info to see if Twilight Imperium was coming and it seems that it's confirmed that it is? Any idea when it might be available?

It will be after public alpha testing, which has not yet begun. I cannot estimate precisely besides that.

@GTSchemer

Sorry if this has been asked before, but will the initial build include the PoK expansion?

It will not, and a TON of people will ask this. I'm planning to create bug reports specifically to cover some very common questions so I can redirect everyone there, such as:

* "I only play with Prophecy of Kings! When is it happening?" It is a cool expansion! However, the base game must be finished first. If everyone is respectful to each other, and BGA + FFG are happy with the community and how games go on BGA, then Prophecy of Kings may happen. The code is designed to support its implementation, e.g. mechs are already considered when designing certain logic or data structures.

* "I only play with house rule X / fan content Y! When is it happening?" House rules can be fun! However, TI4 on BGA will use official rules, with any special cases needing approval by FFG.

One area where I'm sure you'll get a lot of questions is in initial faction drafting and galaxy setup. Presumably you're planning on implementing just the basics in the rulebook and not anything fancier like Milty Draft?

Ooooh I wonder if FFG would approve of Discordant Stars. Mind you, that would be a BEAST to code.

Right, but there is a very good chance of allowing players to import a map, which means in theory people could do some sort of custom draft / setup.

As a side note, I thought Milty Draft requires Prophecy of Kings tiles, and there are not enough tiles in the base game to support it.

You can do a proper Milty Draft in base with 5p base, or with some asterisks in 6p base. The above website has this amusingly written FAQ:
Why only five players without PoK?

Technically it could go up to six (6 is a hard limit because there are only 12 red tiles in the base game), but here's why only five:
The way slices are generated now is that each slice gets a top-, middle- and lower-tier tile + 2 red ones. And in the tiers I have (from miltydraft.com, who — I assume — did their homework) only have 5 middle-tier tiles listed for the base game.

SO: if I completely leave out the tier-system for non-PoK games, it could do six. and I'm planning to implement that in *some* way,
but it involves some deeper-level tinkering and also figuring out how to communicate this whole mess above clearly to anyone using these settings (without cluttering up the whole thing with even more help-text than it already has).

I might implement all this and you'll be able to go up to six, I'm working my way through feedback and feature requests, but I also have a day job.
Being able to do the draft on this external website and then import the map, factions, and speaker order to BGA sounds like a much simpler solution, and maintains flexibility for playing things like seasonal Space Cats Peace Turtles tournament slice drafts.
