Win 2 greeens at 4 players

Post by Romain672 »

Hello,
I just find out that at 5 players having someone playing blue for the third time, and having two differents players discard two greens and you who got that task and sub it is great.

My plan in nearly all games with it at 4 players is either:
- play 3+ tricks (if possible 4+) in one color and win two greens with that color
- comm my green and sub it
- start s4+sX
- have two subs, get the lead in early or mid game, and play sub

But I really rarely do what I said earlier (having another player prepare that trick for me). Is it normal? Is it too situational/chaostic at 4 players for that plan? Or not?

I find out that I put high prio if no comm from the holder of that task to play green. But if I add that option, that reduces the effectiveness of starting green, which is extremely interresting.

Most of the time there are more tasks and I am busy with those other tasks. This task mostly will fill in easy.

Do I play with you in a 5 player game? If not: I would love to. I love 5 playergames in both crews. It is an undervalued option. In real time I can hardly get 5 players...

Yeah that's one of the most criminally underrated and underused plays imo.

Biggest hurdle is you really need one of your teammates to take the initiative for you. And many players have a tendency to wait for you to comm something instead. And unless the support is to your immediate right, the other players won't be sure you have a sub so might not throw the cards you need.

And comming your own long suit to offer help to someone else, is very likely to be misread or assumed to be related to different tasks.

That's why imo for lots of deepsea tasks like these. Instead of a no comm no problem mentality. No comm should ideally be assumed by everyone to mean "I have a sub and I need someone's long suit as a setup"

Let me do some maths: https://www.zupimages.net/up/21/11/1j5g.jpg
Let's first assume someone with 1 green is able to comm their card.
We then got:
1233 33%
1134 26%
1224 22%
1125 12%
01xx 7%
Only 1224 is annoying. The 1233 which is one third of cases is still really slow and don't give much options for everyone.

Now if we assume nobody has 1 card and you are holding 2:
2223 36%
1224 28%
1233 21%
1125 3.7%
0234 7.4%
0225 3.3%
Here we got 2223, 1224, 0225 which are annoying. They sum up to 67%: two third of the time.
If you play one green trick those three became 1112, 0113, 0114. The 0113 & 0114 give lots of options of comms for everyone and of play for one person. While the 1112 which is 36% is still extremely bad, even with one comm. But on the other hand, that 1112 is great with the strategy I talked on my first post here.

I wasn't sure where I was going, but I still extremely like to play green once, and then let everyone cook. Of course like Ursula said it depends a lot of others tasks, the time and discards available you got (and potential comm/timing of pick of the holder of 2 greens).

Hello, I got another question.

How strong are hands like g248 or g359? Are they good for that task (without sub)?
So we got 15% chance to have two greens each, which require after 2 discard of green for others.
And in most other configuaration, you want one specific player to discard, then one of two players to get lead, and then play green again. Which look good.

How would you comm that?
Wait one green trick and then comm green?
Comm high green turn 2? Or maybe low green to be able to play the middle green first, and still show that you want more greens? Low look better to me.
