Attempting to allocate cubes to items not yet selected for construction

Post by danielvictor »

I did this as a beginner. It was very frustrating when it didn't work, and I had no idea why - I nearly quit the game. If a player selects a card for recycling, and then tries to allocate the cube to another item not yet selected for construction, nothing happens. It would really help if the system could sense what the player is trying to do,and explain that a cube can only be allocated to an item once that item has been selected for construction.Don't forget that at the start of the game, there are no items that have already been selected for construction. So that makes it harder to work out why the cube cannot be allocated to something in the only existing field.

Yes,of course, selecting items for construction first works.Only I started with the idea of placing recycled cubes on an item to fully construct it.So I selected an item for recycling - which worked and generated a cube - and then attempted to place that cube in one of the slots of the item that I wanted to construct by clicking on that slot.Only when I did that, the system totally ignored me.There was nowhere else that I could place the cube - other than saving it to empire which I didn't want to do.So I tried selecting a different browser, and restarting my computer, but those things didn't work either. The system still totally ignored me when I attempted to place the cube in a slot.
The system clearly instructs you to either select an item for recycling or an item for construction. What it fails to mention is that at the start of the game,if you choose to generate a recycled cube first, the only thing that you'll be able to do with it is save it to empire - which at a one to five exchange rate is a bad idea.If sensitizing the slot fields of items not-yet-selected for construction - in order to generate an error message when you click on them - is too hard, then the instruction to select an item for construction or recycling should be amended - to warn you that you will need to select an item for construction before you can place cubes on it.

U can recycle first then construct and u can place cubes in it u dont have to put them in empire. But i see what u trying to say u want some sort of way to know that?

Yes.People sometimes have a sort of tunnel thinking - I do,anyway. I wanted to fill up the boxes of a building with cubes,so that it would be constructed and produce more cubes. To do that,it seemed natural to generate some recycled cubes, and use them to fill up the boxes of a building.I didn't understand why I couldn't put the cubes in the boxes. After all, there was clearly only one place to put them ! [other than saving them to empire].

N.B. BGA is perfectly correct that it does tell you in the rules that you have to select items for construction before adding cubes to them. The only trouble is,in a face-to-face game played offline, people tend to just generate recycled cubes and place them on the remaining cards without creating a separate construction area first.Only once production has started is it too late to create recycled cubes.
