Development paused?

Post by ODaly »

Up until a couple weeks ago, bug reports were routinely being updated and responded to. Now there's been no word from the devs for close to three weeks. Is development of the BGA module currently halted?

I’ve never quit a game until this one. It’s too broken to play. Couldn’t take it

Would be nice to have an update. As it stands, we can't even see the damage other cars are carrying, which sounds like a necessary piece of information to make decisions.

If I recall, there was a bug fix in early September that seems to have just broken open a can of worms regarding the dice, which can now be manipulated beyond the rules completely to minimise (or maximise, depending on your viewpoint) the outcomes of a crash.

I clearly don't know how BGA development works, but I would have to imagine a rollback to a previous implementation is possible, which would eliminate the more egregious dice bugs until a solution is found, but we've got to remember who is looking for that solution - effectively a member of the community who wants to see a digital Dirt as much as we do - at least that's how I understand BGA development to be.

I hope life is allowing them to continue working on Dirt, and that there are contingencies in place for when it isn't. An update would be great, but at the same time I'm not even sure an update is to be expected or demanded.

As the year grows darker, I hope this beta becomes brighter. There are plenty of us who will gladly hunt the bugs so that we can play a game we want to share with the world, but only one of us who can do anything about it.

I think an unfortunate contributor to this issue is BGA's limitations on who is allowed to do alpha testing before being opened up to general beta. While it's understandable that it focuses on players who are widely familiar with BGA as a whole, it ignores alpha testers' familiarity with any single game in particular. That there is no consideration for players who are experienced at a game in alpha leads to huge blind spots early on in development where catching and fixing bugs is much easier rather than later in the process when the code has become more complicated.
