Any updates on remaining Project GIPF games?

Post by jstoltz »

DVONN has been a really great BGA adaptation. At first I was sad DVONN was the first project GIPF game on BGA instead of Yinsh, but I’ve really grown to love thr game and have been excited to watch it grow its player base.

This game was realeased on beta close to a year ago and lately I’ve found myself checking the list of new games in alpha to see if any more project GIPF games are coming to BGA. This whole series is amazing and I think the whole line up belongs on BGA. Gigamic’s abstracts have really thrived here. I think having their whole collection up has really helped grow the player base on all their games. I think project GIPF games offer an even deeper more strategic set of games for abstract lovers and BGA really would be the best online home for these games. I think it would be a win win for the BGA community and the publisher and creator of the project GIPF series.

I’ve not seen anything posted on here about plans to do a next game. Does anyone have any updates on if anything new is in the works to bring more of the line up to BGA? Is the hold up a licensing issue or just need for developers? Just thought I’d ask because I’m sure allot of other people are wondering the same thing.

Thanks again for everyone that made DVONN happen I’m still really grateful you guys got the ball rolling on bringing this great series to BGA!

I will start adding more GIPF games to BGA next year. Kris Burm (the author of all those great games) only agreed to have DVONN here when the whole series will at some point in the near future be available - with the same look and feel.

This year I was busy implementing Darwin's Journey and I also have to finish Tang Garden before returning to the GIPF series but once I'll do this, it shouldn't take too long to bring the next game since the framework (3D rendering, move history, settings) I built for DVONN can be reused in great parts for the other games.

You also might be glad to hear what's next in line: YINSH :)

That’s great to hear, thank you again for taking on the project! I’m excited to try them all, YINSH especially!

These are excellent news ! Only played Yinsh once, but it looked very promising.

Congrats for this very good implementation of DVONN, by the way ! Thank you for all your work.

Cool!

Curious. Will this include TAMSK as well? Never really worked as a tabletop abstract and I imagine even online might be difficult. On the other hand, back in the day it was the second game in the series and featured prominently in the marketing. I still have my copy even though sadly the sand in the hourglasses has stopped running either way.

Here’s my favorites ranked

1. Yinsh
2. TZAAR
3. Lynk
4. Matrix-I know no one’s played it yet, but the rules look awesome and I could see this being my favorite, plus it be cool if BGA was the first place Matrix was playable online!
5. Dvonn
6. Haven’t tried the other games but they all also look fun
