Help me understand this scoring card

Post by Godsmurf »

I don't understand the orange scoring card:
"1 point per identical animal if at least 2 of them are orthogonally adjacent to an otter."

https://imgur.com/a/gLPfzii

I (on the left) have 3 lions, of which 2 are orthogonally adjacent to an otter. The same is true for 2 of my 3 giraffes and both my gorillas. So why don't I get 8 points, instead of just 2? Or 3 points if it only counts for one animal (lions in my case)>

The player on the right has 3 giraffes all orthogonally adjacent to an otter, as well as 2 of 3 flamingos and both his lions. So again I'd expect 8 points, but he gets 7, which is at least pretty close.

What am I misundersanding here?

I think it counts, for each otter, the largest group of identical animals adjacent to it, or at least only groups of more than 1.

You have one otter with 2 crocodiles, the other otters have only single animals.

Your opponent has one otter with 3 giraffes, one with 2 flamingos, and one with 2 lions.

Ah, they have to be adjacent to the same otter. Thanks!
