Graphics quality of the RFTG cards

Post by daavidoff »

Hello, I am just wondering, why is the graphics quality so bad? The resolution is just terrible. Is it part of the licence? I wanted to purchase membership here, but playing with blurred cards is not very appealing to me. Also I would appreciate possibility to see card in bigger picture, when I hoover mouse on it, like in seasons.

People who play with metered internet appreciate not having to load 100mb of card image data every time we log in to take a turn. ;D

It could be an option (a user preference, default to "low quality", combined with the dontPreloadImage() BGA method).
But I don't know if the high resolution images are available for BGA.

This would be awesome. The current image is around 1mb. And after the first download it is locally cached anyways.

So if BGA would double the resolution the resulting image would be around 4mb, which is still justifiable imho.

At the moment I'm toggling between Steam and BGA because it looks so much nicer in the Steam version. :D

graydsl: I tried steam version, but my understanding was there is no player rankings in online matches. So you could end up playing with some master and that means very low chance of winning. Is my understanding correct? And also there were not many players available for real time online play anyway.

@daavidoff: That is correct. I used it mostly to learn the game/tiles, because you can read and memorize them more quickly. And the AI is quite good in the Steam version so there is that. But yeah they don't have an ELO rating, hence why I would like to see the BGA version gets a better user experience. :)

Is there a way how to ask a developer about improving graphics quality? I think it would be big benefit for a little work...

Officially you can make a suggestion here:
https://boardgamearena.com/bugs?game=10

or you could message the developer directly.

There are some BGA developer guidelines on image sizes (2MB), it maybe due to that. There are a lot of different cards in RFTG.
