Unbeatable strategy?

Post by rspn »

It should not be at all likely to lose the game for the villagers. Specifically, what happens if every village aligned person just speaks out their role loud?

In a game of say 12 players (3 WW) - at max one will get 3 duplicates (WW speaking out a role at random) so automatically the village has identified 6 innocent people. It should be fairly straightforward to eliminate the remaining confusion.
On the other hand - if the WWs identify as ordinary villagers - you still get information about who are the innocent ones with powers, who would then never be voted against.
Either way, it seems like the chances of the WWs winning is significantly less than 50-50 (ie, only if the villagers get really unlucky resolving the duplicates above).
The more the number of unique roles, the greater this problem seems to be...
Experienced players - what are your thoughts on this - why would this strategy fail?

The set-up of the game is key to have a balanced game. Many players just add many unique roles to the game thinking the game will be more fun, when in fact what that will do is leave the werewolves with almost no chance of winning. The number of unique roles has to be low enough to prevent early massive claiming as a viable strategy for the village, and yet high enough to give the village its chances so the game is not too chaotic.

From another perspective, any set-up is fine as long as all players are aware of the challenges that one of the teams will be facing —either village or werewolves— and agree to it. The problem is most players are not familiar enough with the importance of a good set-up and will just join any open table, so for many the game may end up being a frustrating experience (for those at the wrong side of the set-up).
