Other Letter Distribution for other languages would be great

Post by montsegur »

Again a very good wordgame which loses some flavor because of the Letter distribution for English

E.G in German Y is a crazy letter, but a K for instance is a great letter. Anyway in German CH or SCH or ST or CK should be a "Card Combination". I don t know whether in Spanish or French or Italian are such combinations or preferred letters. But maybe there is chance to offer Specific language card sets ( I would do it for German if someone from BGA Headquarter is interested in)

Implementing different language settings also requires dictionary databases for challenge, from reliable (and preferably free) source.

For French, you also have to define exactly what you allow in term of conjugated verbs.

Many French word games would allow the infinitive, the past participle but not the rest of the forms. Present participle would only be allowed when it also works as a verbal adjective and has its own entry in the dictionary.

For past participles, the feminine and plural forms is only allowed for transitive verbs (there is no way to make a grammatically correct sentence with a plural or feminine past participle with a non-transitive verb).

Some games would allow all the grammatically correct verbal forms but that would mean that on top of a dictionary, you would need a conjugating tool and properly classify all verbs into the various groups and exceptions.

Allowing all verbal forms or not does have an impact on the frequency of some letter, essentially for 'z' which is rare and mostly found in conjugated verbs.

You also need to accepts all the plurals and feminine forms of adjectives that might not always be indicated explicitly in the dictionary if they are trivial (most dictionaries will indicate them I think).

So yeah, not easy to set up...

Well people could agree on checking words on another platform. It s all about the distribution of the letters in different languages. That s normally the problem of word games. But now with HARDBACK as another word game ideas for getting other language dictionaries here onlne
