Can the ""default" starting position be belgian daisy ?

I suggest to set it up this way, as majority of tournaments and serious play is done from this opening.
The original position is very drawish, but most people will not change the setup.

If people really want to play the "original" position that option can be left.

I don't think that's a good idea.
You're right about the fact that tournaments is done from the belgium daisy but don't forget BGA is mainstream. A lot of players, beginners, wanna learn new games including "Abalone", so we need to keep the original format from the official rules. That seems logicial to let this starting position and to purpose advanced modes in options, as "Quarto" for example.
That's simple to change the option if you wanna play with belgian daisy.

I respect your opinion.

My idea is that even the physical game box should come with the Daisy opening as standard.
Abalone is a very good game, but the unfortunate flaw of drawishness is very evident from the original standard position.
