I really like the Halloween Edition. On a high level, it slightly shifts the focus of the game from a maddening chicken run to get the best place in the queue to an actual Tetris experience. After a few games, I feel it's more about building up your square wisely.
There are still tiles that are clearly better than others (like the "big T" or the big "H"), however, these are the tiles that usually do not fit in so easy. So you need to make them work. Also, I think it happens more rarely that games feel already decided after the first half.
