We seem to be using words in a different manner, and are therefore not communicating.

Actually rabbits have everything to do with easter, or at least hares. Easter was originally the feast day of Eostre a germanic celtic goddess. On this day it was common to sacrifice hares to bring bounty in the coming year. Like christmas it was another of the pagan holy days that were co opted into the christian calendar. It is doubtful that these dates have anything to do with the actual dates of the events ascribed to them

I don't believe I ever stated that the symbols were Christian, merely religious :) Nemayn, I agree with you.

Jest Phulin, you look like a guy who discovered the universal injustice in Christmas hats on BGA and went on a crusade against them. Please choose next time a real problem like women's rights in Saudi Arabia.

When a person in a discussion attacks the other person, and not the points under discussion, it is a logical fallacy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem Resorting to these is often a sign that the discussion cannot be resolved in their favor.

Religion is a touchy subject for many. It is best to tread carefully.

Actually I thought you have already conceded. Because I completely understand what you said but you pretend that don't understand what I said.

If you thought I had conceded, what benefit is there to the ad hominem attack? Please provide evidence for your claim of concession.

As far as me understanding you, let me see if I have your argument correct:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10872#p33780
The Christmas hat was not originally associated with Jesus. (Note that it is a Christmas hat, not a stocking hat or a red hat or any other description.)

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10872#p33805
The hat and tree have nothing in common with religion.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10872#p33810
Christmas was a religious holiday.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10872&start=10#p33826
Ad hominem attack

So, in post 33780, it was called a Christmas hat. Post 33810 claims that Christmas was a religious holiday. This, somehow, means that the hat has nothing to do with religion. I don't agree with the conclusion.

It seems to me that Jest is more tolerant than you.

He doesn't mind other people wearing a Christmas hat. He's OK with Christmas hat on other people's avatars. He simply asked to remove the hat from his own avatar.

As far as I've seen, he has never attacked other people because of their beliefs.

Your post is written in English.
The English language was developed in the UK.
Therefore, you are from the UK.

I agree that Christmas was a religious holiday, which does not mean it is still religious.

In my opinion, Christmas is not a religious holiday anymore. All the santa-things, tree, gifts, be-with-your-family, ... are not really related to jesus-stuff, even if some people celebrate the same date as a religious one.

Oh, and "christmas" is called differently in other languages, not reflecting the original relation with christianity ("Noël" in French for example)
