If the protection is there with the idea of giving newbs a chance to learn the site, rules, etc., then they also should not be able to give red thumbs without understanding the site, rules, etc.

(Of course, if they leave the game, they can't give a red thumb anyway so it really doesn't quite fit the original topic, but just sayin'... )

I tend to agree. But beginners should have the right to give red thumb to blacklist a player (red thumb for personal reason). We maybe just have to consider that they cannot disrecommend the community to play with someone.

Update : starting tomorrow, we only consider red thumbs given by players with >=80 karma for "this player is dis recommended by community" alert (& consequences).

This way, beginners can still give red thumbs, but these red thumbs has no impact on other players until the beginner become a regular user with a good reputation.
