Thanks Robo, for giving the timeline.

You are only wrong with the farmer rule. According to Wikipedia, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne_(board_game)
there were 2 older editions and only one of them was using city-perspective. I can confirm that Wikipedia is correct. The final, 3rd edition is identical with the international rules which is correctly implemented here. As you say, these rules are now unchanged since 2002.

The first rule set had farmer points from a city-perspective (4 points per city). Small towns gave 2 points only.

The second rule set had farmer points from a farm-perspective (3 points per farm). A single city could not get one player multiple points, though. Small towns gave 2 points only.

The third rule set removed the farming restriction on cities. Now you can earn farmer points for a single city more than once (when you have majority on multiple farms neighboring this city). Small towns give 4 points.

Have fun!

Hello Euklid,

you should not consult en.wikipedia about a german game ;).

There were two preliminary Carcassonne versions before the Spiel des Jahres version. The first one had a 70 Point counting scale, which was upgraded to the 50 points round course before CCS became SdJ. Farm and city rules where identical, so everybody speaks about "first edition rules".

So, question is, how important is this BGA bug about 1st edition city points?

You are very well informed, Robo - so surely you will be correct.

I bought my first CC in 2001, it has the "2nd rule edition". At the moment I think I own 3 or 4 copies of the base game alone. :-)

Personally, I do not care about the 1st edition rule set and I doubt that this option it is used a lot here.
On the other hand it should be a very small bug fix to update from 3 to 4 points in the 1st edition rule. Just to use the rule set correctly at BGA...

Yes, it should. Did you already vote the bug?

But since Carcassonne seems to be developed by the BGA site developers, and not by an independent team, it could be a while. The list of unsolved bugs is quite long.
