the swiss scheme when winner determine on several rounds and game met winners of previous rounds sounds for me similar to your but already mechanized by many internet services and also here on BGA

Sorry, I think I didn't make myself sufficiently clear.Sleeping Dragon wrote: ↑12 April 2020, 17:52 the swiss scheme when winner determine on several rounds and game met winners of previous rounds sounds for me similar to your but already mechanized by many internet services and also here on BGA
As I read it, swiss schemes are still based on one-to-one duel-kind matches. My proposal is for multiple players in the same match.
Example: suppose we want to set up a tournament for 7 Wonders, with 3 players per match. The following is a possible scheduling for 9 overall participants (5 premium, marked with a *) over 4 rounds:
round 1:
(*1, *2, *3)
(*5, 7, 9)
(*4, 6, 8)
round 2:
(*1, *4, *5)
(*3, 7, 8)
(*2, 6, 9)
round 3:
(*1, 6, 7)
(*2, *5, 8)
(*3, *4, 9)
round 4:
(*1, 8, 9)
(*3, *5, 6)
(*2, *4, 7)
Each player gets to play against every other player sooner or later (this is easily seen for player 1).

yeah, that is what we may create with custom tiurnament initiative

OK, I'll post an update here when the blog posts are out. Thanks for the feedback!
Re: In waiting for not only duel-kind tourneys
This is a possible starting point for managing tournaments of 9 participants with matches of 3 players each, in 4 rounds: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
It provides rounds scheduling and an attempt at managing the leaderboard in an hopefully easy to use way.
The Google Doc spreadsheet is editable by everybody with the link, I have an "original copy" but I would suggest leaving it as-is and work on a copy to try it out.
I would try this on Tokaido or 7 Wonders - maybe not the best for 3-players games, but it might be easier to try out with 9 participants only.
Comments more than welcome!

4 players in a group of 7 works similarly well...at least for turn based where games are simultaneous.
4 games each, you meet each opponent twice.

Re: In waiting for not only duel-kind tourneys
EDIT: previous answer below line. Still, I think this is amazing anyway.
One issue I see with this kind of arrangement is that there can only be one single real-time match at any given time, because any two matches share exactly one participant (much like the cards in the game Dobble). The design I proposed for three-player games allows running 4 rounds of three non-overlapping matches each, making the tournament more compact and minimizing the wait time for all players (still you have to wait for a round to be completed to start the next one, though).
There is a similar arrangement for 4-players games, but it requires 16 participants.

This is amazing, thanks.
A method I've been playing with these days led me to a one-meeting solution for 4-players games that needs 16 players in the tournament; 5-people games would raise it at 25. Having these alternatives with fewer players, but still balance, makes this much more promising to keep the number of overall participants lower and increase the probability of success.
Do you have pointers for the maths? Is this based on 2-designs with lambda equal to 2?

This is the first of a series of posts on the topic: Allocating games in tournaments https://github.polettix.it/ETOOBUSY/202 ... urnaments/

Hello!
This is not the real *last* post of the series, but it's the "practical one" after discussing most of the matters: https://github.polettix.it/ETOOBUSY/202 ... practical/
It deals with setting up tournaments for 9 participants and 3-players matches over 4 rounds, where everybody plays in every round. It provides pointers to a Google docs spreadsheet to track the tournament status online in a cheap way. I would like feedback and, most of all, to try it!
Future posts will deal about the 6-players matches case, which is admittedly somehow niche and I will not bother you with it here.
Cheers!
