I also think preparation is unnecessary (it unbalances the game more than balancing it, 1st position is not strong to begin with), however I don't think Gastronomy is good either, as it makes the game too money tight and nerf the souvenirs too much. It also make poor character like Hiroshige unplayable. I think the original version of the game (no options) deserve a go in one season.
