That was so pathetic and lame, in my opinion. To calculate precisely the time to win the last game, without giving me an opportunity to play after this. For me he's just a fake champion and a pathetic human being.

I'm in a favor of the ranking decay if you don't play. Like a -1 per day when you don't play.
Or, to go in another direction, 20 tokens to reach the next league level, and not 10.

Is sitting at the top without playing any less pathetic?

But a system that encourages doing that either of those is not a good system. I wonder if the EAS should be based on the peak reached instead. Or 75 % * peak + 25 % * current elo score.

Where is the pathetic in that ? I'm just waiting for the second player to catch me. When you spend like one month of good play to reach #1 (so just before #2), why would you play a game that awards your nothing if you win (you're still first), but makes you lose the #1 place even if you finish 2nd. That's just purely stupid. You don't risk something for 0 reward.
When you are #2 and you have the balls to lose all your ranking to be #1, that's the competitive spirit! And to let then the formerly #1 challenge you again. Not at the very last moment. That's like hitting someone from the back and then run away cowardly.

Any system that favors that is a trash one. And even more, this player and I were never faced together, which is another stupid feature of this broken arena.

Like any good competition, what you need is a tournament between the highest ranked players after the end of the Arena. You force them to play together. All competitions are like that.

In a soccer championship or any other arena mode, if the leader technically won 5 rounds before the end, he also pulls out all the weaker players and gives a break to the top players. If they then lose against some cellar teams, the others that were taken down by the A-team before also are at a disadvantage, but still you don‘t just change the system - a win is worth 3 points at the first match just as the last match.

Same here imho. An arena season only goes on over 3 months, and it can‘t be expected that every top player has to be active daily over the whole period or for a artificially defined activity amount.

If someone can win by only fighting the first month, it‘s probably not his problem, but rather a question of lacking skills or activity from his competitors, no?

In football, it is still the whole season that counts' In arena, its one good streak that counts, which you then preserve by not playing. Like in football someone would say midway of the season that now we have 15 wins straight, no one probably has more, so let's stop playing so we don't lose.

Then let's follow your logic.
Football is a scheduled championship.
Thus, the last day of the arena should only authorize a given amount of games, all happening at the same time, and it's the same rule for all players.
This player could play his last games, I couldn't ! I didn't have the chance to challenge because he cowardly calculated his time to finish his last game just before the end of season.

@tulivuori: as i just explained, if they technically won, they bring out the B-team, and they dont care much if they lose. I still think the situations are pretty analogue.

@pistolero: Imho you are mixing up stuff. Title says „arena needs rating decay“, which imho gets a loud NO.
Your issue are unfinished games (and a lack of competitors maybe? That you can‘t fix with changing the system, I‘d say). That‘s a totally different issue, and if you dont want to solve this with a rating decay, you likely will get more support for that.

I'm not even sure if some of the Oh Hell tables I started in last season will finish this season. (I know my oldest one is coming up to 3 months soon anyway, so no knowing the newer ones)

The ongoing games from the last season are going on, but are stripped off their arena relevance. So you‘ll still win/lose ELO, but the arena points won‘t be affected.
