How would you like ELO to be handed out when someone is out of time, and someone else quits?

Factor ELO based on how much of the game has progressed

Hum, maybe the answer would be to need half of the player agree to kick a player out of time.
And then possibility to leave the game by a unique player decision only half of the players are out of time

Then if someone is loosing he cannot kick that easily another player

I would even go on 100% of opponents to be agree or in extra time for turn based (only 50 % of opponent in real time as while the geme is not finished you cannot play another game, so extra time is more ennoying

I do agree this is frustrating and not only for elo points.
I am in the res arcana tournament and twice closed to win the game. (maybe I would not have won, it's hard to tell in res arcana)
But the time of this tournament is quite short, and as it is a 24hour tournament sometime even when players are willing to play they are loosing time during the night when not on the same country (time difference)
In the two game, same situation. The players were playing, maybe not that fast but quite OK still, but as soon as one got in extra time, the last player in game canceled the game. (to avoid loosing points in the tournament)
So in the tournament I get each time 4 points, could have got each time 6 points, plus did not get the pleasure of finishing the game. (which for me is the most frustrating part)

Assuming real time, there should never be any penalty for quitting a game if another player is out of time. And I'm wondering if tournaments/arena would not benefit from automatically kicking out peoples out of time rather than letting it up to the appreciation of the other players.

Assuming turn-based, that's already much more nuanced (time zone, etc). I don't have enough experience in turn-based games to really have an opinion about it. But IMO, if peoples are getting out of time on a regular basis, there is a problem with current clock system.

Even the players who are in last place/losing badly at the time. That's fine I guess, you shouldn't have to wait forever for someone else.

But right now those players with no chance of winning the game actually can be awarded huge ELO points by ending the game. This just isn't right. Meanwhile, a player moments away from winning gets zero if their ELO is higher.

This does nothing but encourage people to quit a game and not let the player behind on time a chance to get caught up.

Obviously its frustrating for the player who is about to win, but if they're not going to get any points why should the person who decided to quit the game benefit? For example, look at Rallyman table #154160028, Progression at 99%. The red car (dead last) decides to end the game when another car has run out of time. They got a huge ELO payoff for quitting.

My suggestion: you take the situation right at that moment as if that is the final score, calculate ELO, then distribute it at percentage of progression. For example, if the game is exactly half over, and you would get 20 ELO for a win, you'd get 10. If someone would lose 20 ELO, they would lose 10.

If some players won't receive any benefit at all, neither should the person quitting on the game right before the end. Again, just a suggestion. The way it is now just rewards quitting.
maybe a reworked version of calculation, that the timed out get -1 point in tournament or the basic -10 elo added whit the last place normal points in normal mode (-2 league points added in arena (-25 more points when elite)), and the rest get their normal points. Wherever they was at when the game finished. Might have picked the wrong one actually

I'm not at all suggesting there be a penalty if someone leaves a game when other players aren't participating like they should. But I have a really hard time with people who were losing badly actually gaining ELO for taking advantage of someone else not playing. That stinks on ice.
