many (but not all) times I’ve experienced problems on other sites, the first message wasn’t the problem. Are we able to block a user from chatting at any time, or just when receiving the first message?

I agree, the warning "first message" is nasty and unhelpful. Anyone that wants to harass me is not going to be stopped by that message. And All the people that I Want to message me have been put off by it. " Oh I just got this messaage, what did I do wrong?" Get rid of the warning message. And have a clear way to block PMs. The best would be for me to be able to block all PMs from an individual, except for predefined messages. So if someone was being annoying, they could still send simple messages that were useful for game play, but could not send insulting rants
