People gave some examples how this could be. You didn't exactly give enough background for anyone to know what the issue might've been there. So maybe you look into their game history. When was your game with them started? When did they finish their first of that game? What was ELO before and after that? Maybe also check unfinished games. Are there unfinished games that are a few years old before ELO-system-overhaul?
