Ideas in this thread are very mixed and hard to say what exactly everybody wants... not sure what kind of a "response" you expect ;)

I do not think there can be a general rule to only set games within one time zone. Most people don't even want that. So it could only be something that you may configure for yourself.

There's already the option to set up your tables on fast turn-based, because if you do, you can set 12-hours-per-day interval where the clock is running. And when you are lucky, people actually look at the settings and only join, if the set time suits them. But it will happen often that they don't notice. But that human incompetence can't be outruled by some system-matching.

Apart from that in some games, time settings like that won't get you any opponents at all (i.e. i can imagine that would happen for some unpopular games or in arena). But that most likely means, that there just aren't enough players from your time zone who want to play fast turn-based game right now. Which leaves to you the option to either play across the world on slower game, or not play at all because your table won't fill. A check by some match-making-system cannot generate suitable opponents for you out of nowhere ;)
Check out the Allround-League: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=7870115 --> a league where you have matches of random games vs. other players in your group. Season 9 registration oct. '25.

How does adding a new feature, "filtering/restricting by time zone", improve the site in a way that is not already covered by proper use of the "restrict playing hours" function?

The example given was for a 4 turns per day game. I'm not sure if this falls into the fast turn based where playing hours can be set or not. But, if the game is set for 4 turns per day, even if most players play at a speed of 8 turns per day during waking hours, a player outside that time zone is not holding the game up if they play at 4 turns per day. The table administrator said 4 turns per day, nobody can say this means a person must play faster than that.

And, as was said before, people who don't follow the normal sleep schedule of their surroundings will be disadvantaged. I live in the southwestern United States, but my normal waking hours are noon-3AM. Should I have to set my computer to Hawaii time to get closer to a 7-AM to 10PM sleep schedule? This will play havoc with tournament start times....

This subject has come up many times before. There has never been a good answer to the question posed at the beginning of this post. How does coding to restrict by time zone improve the site in a way that is not already covered with proper use of the already implemented restrict playing hours?

I totally agree with the suggestion! I even voted for the bug.

Maybe we can make a group for that in order to get the attention of the admins?

The admins have replied to this suggestion several times in the past. The answer has always been that the suggestions doesn't make sense because not every person in the same time zone also has the same play times. The matter is asked and answered a long time ago, and has come up several times since, always with the same answer.
