Private red thumbs have no effect on your karma!
And yes, it‘s unlikely that ppl that give you a red thumb would give you a green thumb instead, if private red thumbs were not unlimited.

And I have to say, it's not common to get public red thumbs from over 10% of the people you've played against, so you might want to ask yourself why everyone is targeting you with their few red thumbs available, rather than asking to have the whole system revised.

I give green thumbs to everyone I play who finishes a game and isn't rude

I don't believe in 6000 games over 2 years that I have ever had a single public red thumb - certainly I've never had a message to say that I had one

As for private Red thumbs - why would you care? They just mean you don't play that person again and have no other impact

I think that the interface when giving a red thumb might be a bit misleading and leading to too many public red thumbs. This is part of the interface when you're about to red-thumb someone:

Image

When you're acting very quickly and not knowing much about the difference of different types of thumbs, you might read it like this:

You are about to give a thumb down
* No
* Yes

It might seem like pressing the "No"-Button does not actually give a red thumb making people who are just skimming automatically press the Yes-Button.

I think the Text in that pop-up should rather be:

You are about to give a thumb down.
(small) Is it a personal opinion or should everybody in the BGA community avoid this player?
* This is my personal opinion
* Everybody should avoid this person
* Abort: I changed my mind and don't want to give a red thumb

I hardly ever gave a green or red thumb to anyone. Or blue or purple :lol:

But I take your post as a reminder to give more green thumbs if I had a pleasant gaming experience with that player. Thank you!

I completely agree with you. Players are using the Thumbs down inadequately and bery often.

The Thumbs down should be targeted from a OBJECTIVE point of view, and should be mediate by BGA staff (new ones). It would substitute the reports and would work more efficiently(I hope better than how BGA manages appeals)

An easy example: A Thumbs down given just for having different points of views. Is is OBJECTIVE. NO.NO POINT

I strongly recommend Thumbs down (personal View) was taken OFF. This is only getting worse and worse (experienced as player).
I bet there are more Thumbs down than Thumbs up

Btw, that interface is aweful. BGA SHOULD change it to a more friendly-non viiolent message

Apparently you do NOT completely agree with me as you say ;)

What I said is that the words in the box are misleading and my suggested solution was to improve the wording. So it would be easier to give a personal red thumb over a public ("objective") one. You however are recommending something quite opposite to me.

As a side-note: However I agree with you that appeals should apparently be handled better. The complaints about not getting a response are disturbing even to me as someone who never went through that. Even if the appeal was useless - I think there should be a response. Even if it's just an automatic "your Appeal was denied". It's important for closure to know when you can stop waiting for a response. The impression "nobody ever even looked at my appeal" isn't good - no matter how bad the offense or how rediculous the appeal was.

A red thumb should just mean ^I don't want to play this person again^ ie the personal red thumb
When red thumbing someone you should be given the current choices but expressed as:

Red thumb
OR
Red thumb and report to moderators

Only the reported type need to be reviewed and impact karma

That would be clearer I think

The way red thumbs work seems to have changed more than once since i've started using BGA. Now that RT to GT ratio is 1 to 5 (it used to be 1 to 1) it is difficult to hand them out at all. I have never seen any info previously about public vs private RT's , it would be nice if this was explained when attempting to give a RT. Also you used to be able to edit your RT's and that no longer seems possible, which is frustrating.

I believe one can still edit red thumbs, but it is not as easy as it used to be. It used to be possible to see a list of all people one had red thumbed and click on the name to be taken to their profile where a change to green thumb or neutral could be made. Now that list is not easily available (if at all), but if a person does click on the profile of a red-thumbed individual they still have the option to change that
