How does BGA decide who goes first? Does this vary from game to game?

Always random, for all games.
Except if you do rematch with the same players, then order rotates.

How can I get some hard data on this? It'd be interesting to see the findings

IMHOTEP has a pretty good first player advantage levelling mechanic, where turn order determines the number of starting cubes available to each player.

I’d also be very curious about empirical data for win rate of player who randomly goes first. Is there any way to get that data? Does BGA make that available anywhere?
