This same thing just happened to me, and now I'm wondering why — maybe I'm not understanding how all the time-based penalties work, but I thought in a "1 move per day" turn-based game, you were O.K. as long as you made a move once every 24 hours?
In my recent game of Earth (
https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=368469228), according to the log, I last made a move on 5/6 01:48:49 UTC (Move #264). Later at 16:35:23 UTC (Move #307), I was declared out of time, and someone skipped me. (And then it claims I quit the game!) But this is less than 15 hours!
(I translated all the times from local to UTC.)
This is the first time this has happened to me, and I've been here a while.

It's not strictly 24 hours between moves. You're given a buffer of time at the beginning of the game (I believe 3x time per turn, which is also the maximum time you can accrue), then an additional amount of time per turn each time you make a move. So in your case, you started with a buffer of 3 days, and got an additional 24 hours after each move (back up to 3 days of total time). If you run your time out, which it appears you did, even making a move may not get you back into positive time, or you may go negative again before another 24 hours is up - in other words, if your time clock goes to -19 hours and you take a move, you'll only end up with +5 hours. If you take 16 hours to take a turn after that, you'll be back in negative again before you do. And if you're negative, people can skip you.
Essentially, if you play a move every 24 hours from the start of the game, you'll stay within the time limits. But if you run over that time continually, or disappear for a long period, you'll eat up your buffer time and you'll eventually go negative, leaving yourself open to be booted.

If you go to the bottom of the replay (in the screen where you choose the point-of-view player), you can see the time evolution.

Thanks for the info; it's more complicated than I thought! It's so weird that someone would get so annoyed by overruns that they would rather quit the game (and the truth is that they quit the game!) that's more than half-completed. It's never happened to me before I believe.

You can try to create or join games with a lower speed, or even use your joker if you cannot play for the next days
WARNING
I have the weird feeling that what Im about to say will makes me sound suuuper dumb

but...
For the "Joker" thing...
It was just a joke I guess... I mean... there's no such Joker for real... ... Right?!
.
No, it's real. If you go to your Games in Progress page (
https://boardgamearena.com/gameinprogress), there is a button at the top labelled "Use a time joker". This will give you 4 additional days of thinking time in each of your games.
Hahhahah ok I didnt know that!
