Think of the timer as part of the game, and going red in your last turn when you're winning is like making a blunder. Would you not take advantage of an opponent's mistake to get a win? Maybe not if they claim it was a misclick or something like that, but still there would be nothing wrong in doing it. Same with the timer.

Certainly there's nothing wrong with this.
I'm just noting that there's sometimes a missed opportunity to spread a little goodwill!

I have to say that this topic is a bit problematic for me, but maybe it's only bad luck. Several times I convinced other players to turn the game into turn based because we were near the end and someone timed out. When someone else timed out the person who was the reason of prolonging the game just kicked them!

I still try to convince fellow players to change games into turn based but I'm starting to regret it more and more

This is the unfortunate consequence of assuming people share your ethics. You can choose to continue to assume people will reciprocate when shown a kindness. You can also choose to never trust anyone again. I prefer to do the former and just accept that occasionally I will get burned.
