kespie 208 vs 158 Automachtig -
https://boardgamearena.com/13/gaiaproje ... =510154538 - Ac + 2M opening, up Eco then Sci. Mine spree in round 4, Ac2 and PI in round 5. Pretty much ignore PI ability. Can probably be polished a bit in round 6, but round 1-5 are pretty solid!
208 !! Nice one, i was trying to beat ultoma , but couldnt find a good strategy, then I studied your game and realized that the 3vp per federation token, was a good one for this set up.
This is my victory against ultoma 185 vs 173
https://boardgamearena.com/4/gaiaprojec ... =511773492
first round started with left academy and 2 houses, 2 mines, then got 3vp per federation token , then 3vp per placing a mine. i think this can be further improved upon by getiing 1 more federation token. it was pretty close

It's great to have such a variety of games. Thank you all for taking part in the challenge.

Tried another approach, increased the score by a tiny margin
danuer13 182 vs automächtig 153.
It's nice to see approaches that try taking resources advanced tiles (5c+1qic here and in @Joshua87cz's game, for example). Good game!

Felt like a hard map for Lantids.
Jonash87cz wrote: ↑08 May 2024, 20:43
This map is hard for them...
Yes, a difficult starting map but the Geodens do create a few handy clusters. Joshua87cz, taking on the ultoma without the PI is quite a challenge you set yourself!
@invalidname, thanks for sharing your less successful as well as your successful games, that's very much in the spirit of the challenge.

kespie 208 vs 158 Automachtig - Pretty much ignore PI ability.
I thought your game was very imaginative: early hopping with mines, and a late mine rush getting some benefit from the PI ability. Nicely balanced scoring across the categories.

The victory was never in doubt

. Excellent tech and research scores. I couldn't at first see why you'd not scored higher but your booster and round points are a bit lower than some.

Here's my take against Ultoma:
kespie 191 vs 172 Ultoma -
https://boardgamearena.com/13/gaiaproje ... =512812981 - Ac+2m opening, up eco. PI in round 2 (inspired by Alaherma), then up Sci, adv tech Sci, adv tech AI (inspired by Alaherma), and quite some QIC actions overall.
(it took me quite a lot of tries, Ultoma gives less and takes more!!)

What a tough challenge! I've racked up more attempts than any other month, and barely a win. Going to have to study other folks' victories. My best is 119 from what felt like a very clean opening. Feels like I'm leaving a ton of points on the table in the midgame, though.

The Automächtig does seem to be the sweet spot. One of the challenges I had was judging how many piggy-back mines to place.

Thank you for posting. Your early federation looked promising but I wonder if leaving yourself with only three tokens cost your economy in the longer term.

Wow, never would have guessed how much easier it would make this challenge to pump the difficulty a little.
164 vs Automachtig 158.
Enjoyed scoring a federation on turn 2; much easier when the CPU is building mines so much faster!

My best so far with Mallumän 189 vs Automächtig 152. Strategy was to get the 3 points per mine tech and PI asap and then spread mines (round 3 was the big one).

New record it seems, although I lost
Mallumän 217 vs. Alptrauma 229, same strategy as earlier - i.e. 3 points per mine tech and PI asap (round 3), then spread mines. Also invested in eco tech, but ignored sci tech, later got terraforming and navigation maxed.

Great games! Wow, you really went for the mines. I expected you to have piggy-backed too many too early, but it was judged better than I could ever do. 58 for tech! Unusually, I've added both your scores, the winning one to the elite and the losing one to the cadets. Congratulations, even with the loss!

Yes, it can make a big difference (that's one reason for beginners not to play the Automalein, as it gives so little charge). Glad you won!
I think everyone has done well for the Lantids, and there's still nearly a week left to post new or improved scores. Enjoy your weekend.

Ahh, I thought it was the total score that mattered, didn't realize you'd have to beat the AI as well to be considered for the top scores. Hence, had one more go
Mallumän 221 vs. Ultoma 173, again with the same strategy, just a little bit better optimized - 3 points per mine tech and PI on round 3, then spread mines. Also, invested in econ and later maxed out terraforming and navigation.
