I totally agree with this thread.

While I understand the concerns about changing the site strategy for expansions it feels like a question best decided on a case by case basis rather than a blanket approach.

C&K is so different that I don't want to mix it in on the start a game options when searching for a table. I want to know if I will get C&K or base before I start, despite liking both. The ELO and Arena situation just makes this worse.

Personally i don't mind the ELO to be mixed - but i am facing the same issues trying to join a city and knights lobby - so I would also appreciate the differentiation of basic game and add ons - especially if we think about seafarers being added also at some point.

I agree they could make it more clear. Sometimes the interface is confusing.
You can however filter what games appear for you, that's the best way to mitigate it.

I agree that C&K asks for an entire difference strategy in the game, but it is still an expansion. What will we do if BGA will introduce seafarers? You can combine all those scenario's with C&K too. You can't expect that BGA will set up for each scenario and each combination (with or without C&K) a game as if it is a new one.

I agree as well. I often try to start a C&K game and then have people abandon or propose to cancel because they don't want that variant. Fair enough, but it would eliminate a lot of issues if we could just have them either separate or VERY clearly labelled.

Alternatively (I have no idea how easy or hard this would be to code) have a popup that confirms you will be playing x variant before accepting or joining?

It is not because people don't know how they can ignore C&K (yes they can!) that BGA should make an exception.

What happened to Cities and Knights? I was able to play a few games and now it just takes me into the Catan base game tournament.

I agree, separate game, separate ELO.

Could somebody who got the access to do so have a look at my settings, please?
What is wrong with them, that I still keep landing in games for cities and knights without wanting to.

Try this. From https://boardgamearena.com/lobby set the drop-down menus at the top to: SIMPLE GAME; either REAL-TIME or TURN-BASED (whichever you prefer); and AUTOMATIC. Then click on the cogwheel beside Catan. Click "Show Advanced Options". Under the heading "Expansion", click "Change". Then set it to "I never want to play with Cities & Knights" and "I'm okay playing with Base game". Also you can change whatever other options you like (for example, the option to only play with opponents who have a high reputation). Then click "Play now!" at the bottom.
