Because we have a lot of people with little or no experience of playing games, a small minority of whom think their complete lack of knowledge makes them experts on the etiquette... to be fair that is an internet problem, not a board game problem.

Yeah, right up there with the "dice are rigged" and "my opponent is cheating by blocking my moves!". Some people are well... how should I put it...

Often I see a majority of players saying conceding is the norm, and those on the forum are more invested and have experience, so they will have a bigger voice.

I try to find comparaisons on the sports:
- let's said you are pro footballer, and are at 0-3 at 93 min. 5minutes of extra time has been annonced. No need to waste time by playing the last 2 minutes. So you just concede the game, and end the match.
- you are playing a big race but are slightly hurt, so you have no chance to win today. So no need to do the race.
- you are running 100 meters. You are pretty good at the start, but lack sligtly of speed. The run start and strangly today you got a very bad start. So your chance to win the race is 0. So you don't finish the race and stop immediately.


Why are those examples differents than 'board game etiquette''?

Why are those examples differents than 'board game etiquette''?

Football players- lifetime career they are paid milions to play at
Big race- practice for a year or more to reach this in-person event with no chance to be in this race again for a year
100 Meter dash- you are there in person, likely on camera with people you know and love watching

On BGA, we are strangers in our private homes, just passing time, some of us playing many games a day. Ending one or beginning another is mostly meaningless. No investment of time, can always start 10 more to replace any that are done.

Why give away your personal happiness by letting such a minor things as conceding a game tank your world? You can never ever expect to make the several million who play here obey your wishes. Why not learn to change your own mind and be happy you won? Why let unnecessary unhappiness into you life by letting such a small thing upset you?

There is no parallel to real life game playing, just like Facebook will never be the same as friendship IRL. Different rules, different ways of being.
