Depends on the group of friends :P. In 2 of the groups I play we introduced clock in chosen games and it did wonders. People who occasionally struggled with analysis paralysis were cured, some stopped being annoyed by others taking their time (as now it is resource that your opponent is using).

While I would never introduce it in a casual group, I strongly recommend people try it in more veteran environment.
I read a story that Paul Morphy (by far the best chess player of his time) waited 8 hours for his opponent to play a move. Then he asked his opponent if everything was OK. Opponent said: "Oh, is it my move?". Morphy gave us chess (for other reasons as well).
