Re: To Prelude or not to Prelude?

There is a simple fix, unofficially it's rebalanced by acting like Mars U but with earth tags. The post prelude expansions and promo cards are horrendously designed, makes the game unplayable essentially at top level. 4 player games are pure garbage in all settings, that's why the world championship is a joke. The game is far deeper at 2p, it's essentially a different game. It's a crime that TM has not implemented all the rebalanced server's changes for a long overdued 2nd edition. I wish the designer would allow BGA to make minor changes like what they are doing for the Arc Nova community. I am super impressed by that community.

Once the arena is finally 2p, you will see some real TM being played. And many GM of the game will hopefully take BGA more seriously. Right now players like me, Thread and Corbz are literally just chilling.

I dunno about TfM Worlds, but I have heard of board game tournaments not being able to get sponsorship to run the event unless 4p mode (or specifically "not 2p") was used because the 1v1 nature is against the spirit of board games bringing people together. It's unfortunate because seasoned competitive players would agree that 1v1 is the best setting for competitive play.

Yep, those two statements sum up the problem with taking games designed form multiple players and playing them 2p. TM isn't going to be hurt too much but look at the mass of players who fundamentally don't get Carc for a good example.

That's like saying Chess, Go, Magic the gathering doesn't bring people together. And you wonder how board gaming didn't break through to the next level post pandemic. Dumb people are apparently running the show. I wouldn't know though, I never went to a live tournament, I thought they are just lazy so they just jam 4 people to a table to save time.

The best option for 2p would be prelude w/o prelude corps

Preludes for sure. Not really for game length reasons, as it is fairly marginal, but for variance reasons. While prelude strengths differ wildly too, with higher number of cards seen, games are not automatically lost by getting a trash corp + starting hand combo, as you have preludes to possibly make something out of it.

On the topic of 'lower tier' corps, given Fryx games has posted information saying that some corps should be buffed (UNMI, Inventrix); I wonder if BGA and its devs (hi !) would consider adding an option to buff those corps to make they more playable.

Best wishes.

Just to chip in: prelude, definitely. Adds another layer. I like layers.
No strong opinion on not/adding unbalanced corps - Credicor's here anyway. Also for no RNG I go chess
Cheers

Without prelude is better. Clearly less luck and more strategy without a random kickstarter.
