As a bonsai lover and keeper myself, i'm always curious about some informations.
I always get them inside so they don't suffer from the negative temperature we can have here. So i guess it also depends on your place?
A rule of thumb is if the tree can grow in nature in your region, leave it out year round. If the tree would suffer damage below a certain temperature (tropicals, subtropicals) bring them in. Junipers, pines, maples, larches, oaks, beech, ash, firs, etc., all rely on winter dormancy to survive. You can keep them alive for a few years without dormancy periods, but eventually they will get sick and will die.
