can we have the "names" of the Gurus, and ask them of their votes? That would onlt be fair if not all players get to vote. It just doesn't seem right that people come to BGA expecting to play by the published rules and find that some secret group has decided to change the rules, with no input from the players. BTW, the current rules are unfair in that players can block getting Robbers by choosing not to get their 3rd settlement and yet can attack those who have fairly build 3 settlements.

As far as I know, only the gurus in a particular game (and site admins obviously) can see who the other gurus are. But I haven't tried hard to find them. I agree that there is no reason this should be secret.

So finally it's revealed that your beef is with the Friendly Robber variant. Many people share your feelings and basically hate it. But many also *wanted* it and successfully lobbied it to be implemented as an option on BGA with the approval of the Catan publisher. I have no dog in that fight because I only enjoy playing Catan over the board. But Friendly Robber is a published variant found in the Traders and Barbarians expansion. So it's not as if the variant was just made up out of thin air, even if it isn't in the rule book for the base Catan game.

Gurus are players.

Feel free to go into the actual Catan forum and argue your case. That is also the best way to reach any gurus who actually read the forums and try to sway their vote for the next season.

You mentioned Yahtzee... and I'm the current BGA Yahtzee developer.
So I'm posting a comment here about only it, as general Arena mode issues have been explained by others already.

In fact, Yahtzee is a commercial variant of Yatzy and other similar public domain games.
And options on BGA version other than Yahtzee are those public domain games.
Thus, every option in the current BGA version is a classic for someone.
For example, check the url of the game page: It says Yatzy, not Yahtzee.

If you want a competitive option set, try Triple mode Maxi Yatzy. It's the option set least dependent on luck.

You can't. I have no knowledge of the Yahtzee community, but the gurus, which are the people who play the game the most for every Arena season, they have voted for whatever variant is being used this season. To play by standard rules you will have to play a simple game.

I think you've made your point that you're indignant that you can't play "Classic games with rules as written" for every single game in Arena (putting aside that in many cases the rules are written, they are just not the simple rule set).

If you want competitive play according to rules you like, you can set up a tournament using whatever rules you want for a game.
