I hear what you're saying, and I agree with most of it. You put in so many words
I play 2-player games mostly, because I don't have the patience to wait for more players. And I encounter a lot of players who:
- Think black powder is on, while it isn't and yolo-play a 5.
- Refuse to play a 1, thinking it's powder 1, while black powder is off.
- Play conventional leftism, while finesse is selected.
The fact that CL is never hosted, doesn't mean it doesn't get played. I would put CL between beginner and finesse, but most players don't know that they play like that; or refuse to configure the table.
I literally played with a player who uses CL (in my finesse table) 10 minutes ago:

In move 10, this happened:
Clearly m2 isn't playable, so Feen think's the focus of yellow-clue is on y2. While finesse interpretation puts the focus on m2, making HGM think it's y3.
So maybe call it this:
- Unspecified -> beginners/apprentice
- Basic -> medium/good players
- Conventional Leftism -> good/strong players
- Finesse & Bluff -> strong players/expert/master
- Layered Finesse -> master
Or just refuse to configure the table properly.I've noticed that most players "play however they find it the most fun", and will refuse to play the convention that the table is set to.

Code: Select all
Discarded: m4
Played: r0, y1, g0, b1, w1, m0
HGM's hand: (new) m2, y3, b4, g(2), y(2), r3 (old)
Feen's hand: (new) b1, w2, b1, w(4), r(3), g(4) (old)
Feen gives yellow-clue to HGM
HGM's hand: (new) (m*y)2, (y)3, b4, g(2), (y2), r3 (old)
I think what you call finesse || finesse & bluff; is the difference between (historically) Conventional Leftism || Finesse. If you want to change the convention name, then I would rename finesse (without bluff) to Conventional Leftism, and finesse & bluff (to mean traditional finesse), to elaborate that bluff is also required.Blacktango wrote: ↑08 November 2024, 19:43 I think that with this list, you can reach some specific players like:
