MASTERS LEAGUE - Event 2 (Alpine) – summary

It was a very surprising and unpredictable tournament!
There was probably a record number of surprising promotions and final results in total (taking into account all 9 previous editions, including those from the previous year).

A very wide range of great players ended their participation in the group stage:

Group A (The most difficult group in history?) :

- Helbiii (6/14) - player with the highest rating, winner of the entire 2024 edition, barely place 9 in the group
- Llorent (9/14) - Very unlucky! This is a very rare situation when a player does not pass the group stage after scoring as many as 9 points! The weaker balance of small points than two other players was decisive (fp149 and Rikerslash were better). This is also the first situation when this player does not advance to the finals two editions in a row!
- Den172 (7/14) and Lemmmmm (8.5/14), finalists of the first edition, who were also among the favorites to advance, also did not make it to the final
- AJT - Spartacus (5/14) - winner of the first edition of the open series, eliminated in 10th place
- Lawton (2.5/14) - He can talk about a very unsuccessful return to the tournament, and yet a year ago he took 8th place in the general classification, finishing the tournaments in 2nd, 6th and 7th place.
- MASA 444 (4/14) - also had an unsuccessful comeback (10th in the general classification last year)

A total of 7 players I predicted to advance from the group were eliminated in group A alone.
It was one of the strongest, if not the strongest group in the history of the tournament :)

In Group B:

- StArvid (8/14) - I predicted him to be the favorite of the tournament, he also failed, 7th place
- -Popiette- (5/14) - 2nd place in the first edition of this season, also failed, 13th place
- haiduk (7/14) - a rookie, with the 2nd highest ranking before the start of the tournament, failed, 10th place

In Group C:

- noel344 (8/14) - unluckily finished the competition in 6th place in the group

So who made it to the finals?
From my pre-tournament predictions:

Main favorites of 2nd edition tournament: (based on experience and results so far)
***** - fp149
*** - wkccc, sentimental1spica
** - Flemin, MalteH
* - DarkNumenorean, muggel_b, Fred75014, Pam2428
Underdog: Pfcmic, ttseppel, Board Game Enjoyer, Dead Girl, Rikerslash, Pea Sprout

This gave a record number of 6 players who were not predicted for the finals and a good chance for more surprises!

FINAL STAGE:

The winner was quite unexpectedly the rookie Rikerslash (Germany), who entered the tournament with a rating of barely over (500+), who has not played too many games compared to other players. A real dragon's entrance!
This is the first title for a player from Germany, a nation that is widely represented, from which the game comes! :)
A win (11/14) of the matches ensured a victory with a considerable margin! Congratulation!

2nd Pea Sprout (9/14) - Another rookie! Congratulations on a great result!

3rd Flemin (9/14) - My humble self. The first podium. It could have been better :p Hah

FP149 (8.5/14) - 4th place for the defending champion from the first edition and favourite of the final in this edition too! A great streak! This means that the fp149 is defending the first position in the overall standings of the 2025 season! Bravo!
The other favorites of the final phase:

sentimental1Spica (8/14) 5th place!
wkccc (6,5/14) 9th place!

Important topic:

There were several violations of the unofficial tournament rule during the tournament. We are talking about the principle of "not to kick people overtime". This is very ugly behavior, and we want the game to take place in a friendly atmosphere.

Therefore, I am forced to add this rule officially and I will remind you of it on the occasion of the start of each edition!

I'll add a rule of not skipping the game to every future event (even if the player's time runs out). There are 10 days for the group stage and 10 days for the final stage in total. Any skipping of players will result in a penalty of no invitations to future tournaments and negative points in the annual table of the competition.

We must remember that the player who has less time after 10 days will automatically lose this match anyway. However, we should let the opponent play his game within these 10 days :)

Let's take a look at the general classification table of the 2025 season after two events:

Top 15:

1. fp149 305pts.
2. wkccc 244
3. Rikerslash 190
4. -Popiette- 171
4. Flemin 171
6. StArvid 170
7. Pea Sprout 156
8. MalteH 154
9. Helbiii 137
10. Lemmmmm 127
11. Pfcmic 118
11. Den172 118
13. Ladinek 116
14. sentimental1spica 106
15. DarkNumenorean 101

OPEN LEAGUE (2nd event) - GROUP PHASE :)

The finalists:

1) ShadowDragon92 8/9 (Germany) - Promotion from a difficult group with a throw on the tape! Seeded number 3 in the group, beat podo78 (rank 550+!)
2) english10010 7/9 (USA) - Seeded number 3 in the group, he turned out to be better than his higher-seeded rivals, great record (600+)
3) muggel_b 8/9 (Germany) - The favorite of the group and, in my opinion, one of the main favorites to win the tournament. A regular visitor to the "MASTERS" series. A sure promotion!
4) Wadik23 7/9 (Austria) - The player seeded only number 5 caused a big surprise! He overtook a player with a rank (500+) and several with (400+). Bravo!
5) Schlodz 7/9 (Germany) - Good run at the start. A Sure promotion!
6) Uli Radtke 8/9 (Germany) - Second promotion in a row! In the previous edition, he took second place. Will it be victorious this time?
7) ThoBad11 8/9 (Germany) - Another surprise in the group and the promotion of a player seeded only in the number 4 place! Congratulation!
8) SoosGF 8/9 (Russia) - Seeded three, he wins after a fierce fight!
9) Revco 7/9 (USA) - Last time, he was mentioned as one of the favorites, he finished the final phase in 14th place. This time it should be better! Will there be a podium? Or maybe even winning?
10) AJT - Spartacus 8/9 (France) - Defending champion. However, the competition seems to be a bit more difficult. Will he be able to win again? It won't be easy!
11) troglonio 8/9 (France) - He fulfilled his duty of being the favorite of the group. However, in the final, he will only be an outsider. Will he try to surprise as a dark horse?
12) meezespuszedli 6,5/9 (Hungary) - The most balanced group! Only 6.5 points allowed them to win the group. There, the Hungarian will try to make a surprise.
13) fabfoe 7/9 (Germany) - Another win for a player from Germany, although it was not easy. In the final, it will be even more difficult to achieve a good result.
14) imnovaklu 7/9 (USA) - A great debut of this inexperienced player. Win from seed number 2.
15) happy-elephant890 9/9 (Germany) - The only player to win all his games! Will he keep the streak alive in the final?

Who will win the second edition in the OPEN category?

In the final, we have three players who were in the finals in the first edition:
AJT - Spartacus (1st),
Uli Radtke (2nd),
Revco (14th).

The remaining 13 will make their debut at this stage.
Interestingly, none of the 4 highest seeded players before the tournament (500+ ranking) will play in the finals! Good job underdogs!

In the final we will most likely see:
7 players from Germany,
3 players from the USA,
2 players from France,
1 from Austria,
1 from Russia,
1 from Hungary.

On paper, the most experienced player is once again "AJT - Spartacus" with over (1600+) matches played. Defending champion. The main favorite. However, it is not easy to win serially!
I think that his rival will be put in difficult conditions and this time he will stop "only" on the podium ;) However, I wish you good luck!

muggel_b - He will probably be the biggest rival. An experienced player who is doing well in the MASTERS series. Strong number two favorites.

happy-elephant890 - The only player to win all of his group stage matches. Will he maintain his form?
A dark horse and the greatest unknown. How will he cope in such a tough competition?

Who will try to outsmart the favorite?

Revco - Last time he failed and did not cause any problems for the favorite to win the tournament. Will he fight this time? I think that top3 would be a fully satisfactory result.

Uli Radtke - Second place in the previous edition was quite a feat. What are the aspirations in this edition? I think that repeating the podium would be a great result. There is a chance to outsmart the favorites in this form!

The other players do not have as much experience.
However, they learn very quickly and there is quite a good chance that one of them will cause a surprise.
Meezespuszedli is close to reaching the 500+ ranking,
Troglonio, on the other hand, has over 600 games played.

My pick: muggel_b - This time, he will take the title.

Good luck everyone! :)

OPEN LEAGUE - Event 2 (summary)

Big congratulations to imnovaklu (from USA) - the winners of the second edition of this season in the OPEN league!

He was not the favorite. He did not have much experience and ranking, but he played great, winning 11 out of 14 matches and triumphed very confidently!

Thanks to a great streak, he improved his ranking to around 480+. Wins a ticket to the MASTERS series.

The podium was completed by:

2nd - SoosGF (Russia) - 10/14 pts
3rd - english10010 (US) - 10/14 pts

These were other players who were not in the top favorites. Bravo!
All three won an invitation to the MASTERS tournament (in future edition).

The favorites fared much worse:

AJT - Spartacus (4.5pts, 14th) - had problems to play their matches on time, which certainly made it very difficult for them to win the league again.

Revco (5pts, 13th) - Failed again in the final group

happy-elephant890 (6pts, 8th) - Predicted to be a dark horse after a sensational group stage, this time he couldn't make it

muggel_b (9pts, 5th) - Predicted by me to be the favorite and the winner, this time he has to settle for only 5th place

Uli Radtke (9pts, 4th) - The closest he got to the podium, which he lost only at the end of the tournament. He could have become the first player to be on the podium twice this season
