I've never seen that. I just setup a couple of tables through Play Now and didn't see that screen. Is it only for real-time games perhaps?
I think it's only for real time. It is useful for extremely low traffic games. I doubt many people use it for Ark Nova or Azul.
I only recall a handful times in nearly 5 years I've been contacted through that feature, so it's not like you're inundated with requests.
Yeah, the games I tried it with are low traffic games, but I didn't setup for real-time, as I don't want to play those. That would make sense if it's for real-time - if you're playing turn-based and aren't happy to wait for opponents, you're probably not built for turn-based play.

True. For some games I feel lucky if it only takes a day to fill and start.

I have used this feature in the past (pre new lobby) pretty regularly and had been invited trough this system pretty regularly as well. If I remember correctly you just get a pop up in the chat box, so it is not very intrusive/annoying.
I think you should just try these suggestions. It is easy to ignore for those who don't want to play that specific game right now and at least I would be happy to get notified that someone is looking for an opponent for e.g. Senet when I'm not actively on the Play Now page where I can see the new table pop up.
The list of players you can suggest to join a table is hidden behind the "XXX Players available for this game" graphic.
