If someone creates or joins a fast paced, turn-based game, they want to play at a fast pace. If someone can't do that but joins anyway, they're wasting other people's time. Of course, even with the best of intentions, life happens; that's what time jokers are for. If they're not enough, the player has much bigger problems than BGA reputation.

Re: Make kicking players a group decision
I have been in that position and I totally understand why I was kicked. If you don't want time restrictions on games perhaps you could setup games with no time limit?Crystal1501 wrote: ↑11 February 2025, 13:04Life happens! If you had a child who was sick for several days in a row, would you really still think to yourself while your child is sick 'dang, I'd better keep to the commitments I made on a website where I play games'? Or would you be focusing all your time and attention on caring for your sick kid, potentially leading to your time going over?
The main change I want to see is karma penalties for going over time. If someone isn't kicked they receive no penalty so someone who is constantly slow in games can have perfect reputation.

My opinion hasn't changed, I feel like I've said my piece. I'm not going to start repeating myself.
Re: Make kicking players a group decision
Twice now I have been kicked out of CATAN because the timer screws up! The first time it happened I sent a note and the powers that be fixed it but I wish they would fix this issue because it happened to a friend of mine as well. All of a sudden the time runs out without the expel warning and you are out of the game and docked 10 points.

Lol turns out the OP created the thread not for the sake of discussion but for validation. If you are so sure that your stance is correct, and refuse to listen to others, just go create a suggestions threat. Surely since it is the superior option, it will be upvoted massively and implementedCrystal1501 wrote: ↑11 February 2025, 13:40 My opinion hasn't changed, I feel like I've said my piece. I was having a discussion! There's however a difference between a discussion and repeating myself - I don't want to be the person that repeats my points again and again for no reason. That's not a discussion, it's just annoying.
Re: Make kicking players a group decision
I think that a separate argument in support of all players at a table agreeing to end it, is that it does affect everyone at the table, including those who have kept to time.
I have had the odd game where someone has run over the time, but another player has only chosen to expel them at the point where they are clearly losing. This then has the effect of nullifying the win of other rule-abiding players at the same table.
If BGA insist on leaving time management up to the players (a separate issue), then an automatic cap could be implemented akin to tournaments but with a relative value, rather than an absolute one. Half the player's allotted time perhaps?
Admittedly, I don't really know why I'm contributing to this discussion as it doesn't feel like this kind of player management is high on the BGA priority list. It's all a bit hypothetical.

Ngl, I've been tempted to do that myself, but I always lose fairly. Heck, once I accidentally proposed to abandon instead of conceding, and the person actually said if I didn't fix the mistake they would have accepted the abandon lol!

2) As you suggest, that is much more important than playing games on BGA... or than getting a karma penalty on BGA.
3) Life also happens when you cannot attend a concert you bought a ticket for, or take the plane you planned, or submit the application with a deadline at midnight, or...
Re: Make kicking players a group decision
Since kicking someone often ruins the game for everyone at the table, it should definitely be a group decision!
In my opinion, kicking somebody is as bad as quitting since you end up with the same result: a game that cannot be ended properly. Hence, I will redthumb kickers just as much as quitters.
I just don't get the haste some/many people here seem to have. It's a game, it should be enjoyed. Relax! I understand getting annoyed if there's analysis paralysis in real-time games, but if someone doesn't play the way you like (too aggressive, too slow, too whatever) just finish the game and don't play with them another time. If it's a turn-based game though .... why would you even care if it's a few hours or days later that you make your next move?
