As the others have pointed out, this is wrong. This is why you place the 1st player tile on the factory floor and thus have a penalty for taking it. Because going first is generally advantageous, you have to pay for it with that penalty.

Also, it IS called the "starting player" tile.

I hope everyone sees what I am implying :)

What i had meant to say is:
Not in accordance with the actual board game that I own and the rules that come with it.

I will take a look at the printed rules and reinterpret them but in the board game there is one white tile with a blue one. This gets used every round in the middle. First one who takes it has to put it in the penalty row.

Here on BGA there is two - one that is owned by one person who has all the benefit for the whole game, and one that is in the middle of the playing area and gets picked by the first to take tiles from the middle.

I played maybe 6 or 7 games of Azul here and have not owned the start tile yet and have therefore lost most games sometimes with only a tiny bit less points but always with less turns than the opponent.
The start tile in BGA makes the start player overpowered.

What is sure is that the publisher validated the BGA version, where the player taking the First Player tile will start the next round.

When you start second on a round, you can almost every time take the First Player tile to start the next round (except if the first player took 4-of-a-kind tiles, but that's rare). It's your strategic choice to rush for it, or take better tiles but maybe let the first player take it again.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this (and thanks to everyone else who tried). It seems like i never had the opportunity to start the game & had opponents who rushed for the tile. Therefore I had the impression there were two tiles.

I just played it and grabbed the blue tile and now i understand the mechanics.

I stand corrected. Thanks everyone who invested time to try to explain.

Can anyone address this with certainty, because I have absolutely no idea what this is referring to. In my games of Azul, there is a single such tile, and its possession goes to whoever draws first from the center. My games do not have any second permanent tile.

[Edit - neve mind, it seems the OP is now aware of the situation.

Is that correct? ]

If an example is needed, here is one:

Notice that on my opponent's first move, possession of the tile changed.

Seems like the first person who starts the game is randomly chosen but I sure don’t seem to be that person very often. I think it also has to do with your game ranking or cumulative points. If you have more than the other players then you might be chosen to start less often. That is a guess but seems like it might be true.

Nearly everyone thinks they get chosen to go first the minority of the time.
