I really enjoy the game but it is both high strategy and high luck. Like if you played chess but the pieces you got to use was decided randomly.

When two skilled players meet, the one who draws even one more soldier (early enough to use it effectively) will usually win. I mean of course if you get a soldier and three monkeys then your opponent can probably still outplay you with the right cards, but the point is that once everyone knows all of the tricks and strategies it comes down to what you draw.

Think about it - once you capture territory those medals are gone. The soldier lets you beat your opponent to them before they can do anything. It doesn't matter if they slap a Roxy on it after that point. Yes Jumbo is is powerful too but if I start with 2 soldiers early and you draw none then the game is all but decided.

The only change I'd like to see is the luck rating in the game's description.

I've played 103 games, and it just happened to me for the first time. My opponent said that it had happened to him several times. :o

I've not had it happen to me yet, but I did once do someone else with the 3xCap'n base strike.

It felt dirty. I wasn't proud of myself

I actually have had 4 soldiers in a game and I’ve won against someone 5 times! Each tone with at least 2 soldiers. But I think it’s just a matter of luck. I don’t exactly feel bad because marine the developers of the game designed it like that.

Yep, that's the most annoying loss. Even two soldiers break the game often.

Hello,

It looks like there is some strategy to try to prevent this, especially when rushing to your HQ.

But remember Toy Battle is a short game, and drawing brings some part of luck.
don't compare it to abstract games fully controlled.

Turn 5? I just lost to triple soldier on turn 2 and I have no interest in playing this game again. You can make all the excuses you want about rate of occurrence and an element of luck; the truth is this is just terrible game design and could easily have been avoided. All the designers had to do to avoid this clown fiesta was to make the soldier play exactly "one" of any other piece and avoid the ridiculous chaining - but they apparently didn't playtest their own game. Losing on turn 2 with no possible counterplay even if you can see the opponent's hand is not acceptable game design.
