I got screwed in arena because I didn't know the controls changed (I would have expected the interface to tell me if updates were made considering the game left beta). I am glad to hear that an option will be made available. Honestly I like the new way better (less accidental misclicks not being very obvious since misclicks have a very loud feedback of the piece bouncing back home) I just wish it told me something changed instead of immediately hitting me for not knowing.

Yes, I can try to add it as an option.
I'll work on it tomorrow.

You can now choose the double clic effect in the preferences.

how about: locked pieces get marked easily visible (like they get a same color different than the oirignal ones like black/grey, or there is a "!" or similar sign on them)
part of what prevents me from using locked regularly is not clearly knowing which pieces are locked, which is kind of defeating its purpose.

nice work, including that you are so open for feedback and user experience
edit: ok so I personally prefer a color switch, since it would be more striking and not distort the shape of the pieces.
however a full merging into black/grey for example might be suboptimal. since that also would decrease pieces recognisability.
therefore my best suggestion is (especially if it's easilly doable technically) to turn one half (either lower or upper) of the locked pieces into black or white, but slightly transparent.
the piece that comes closest to black would be in my view parrot from jungle, and closest to white would be yellow bird. both would be still well recognizable.

Thanks for listening to user feedback! I also really like that the starting puzzle in Cycle is now randomized—I used to almost always get Birds on Easy and Jungle on Hard during the last Arena season.
That said, I don’t want to be that guy, but I’m not sure this change fully addresses OP's issue. The problem wasn’t that locking was available (he could’ve just ignored it), but rather that it was easy to accidentally double-tap and end up locking the character unintentionally.
Changing it so that the character just gets sent back home is a bit less disruptive, but wouldn't a "do nothing" action on double-tap be a more complete fix?
Also, for players who like both features, is there a way to have both enabled at the same time? Maybe a triple-click option or something similar?
While I’m at it, just a small suggestion: I often find myself accidentally selecting a character, then having to re-click it (which can be troublesome sometimes) just to deselect it before moving someone else. Could clicking on the background just deselect any selected character?

Now I know why double tapping to lock hasn't worked for me the past few times I've tried it.

@Yoann what's the status with the locked pieces get marked change?
