After seeing this is another post. This may be a simple improvement that would be helpful. A timer on your match to let everyone know how much overall time is left in the game. Some of us seniors get lost on days. Should be easy to implement.
[[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
Re: [[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
Hello all, and thanks to everyone who work on the site to improve this all
I'm quite new on tournaments, and there is already a lot of things !, but of course we always want more
After reading a lot of your posts, I just realise the "bye" problem
For example (and those who don't understand yet like me) I try to plan a 4P game tournament, with only one eliminated by game
It seems it will works like that :
So near the end there is more Bye than eliminated... (oups 10 rounds...)
[fimg=https://imgur.com/a/0uRzAJM]
------
If there is one update and code something like : If not 4P = 3P or 2P (yes it's oversimplified)
Like this we gain 2 rounds > R8
But even like this we have some Bye
[fimg=https://imgur.com/a/iqZNGsK]
------
I'm agree with RazorOz "I'd like to see the option to set # of players per table, and players to qualify per tournament round."
But I guess it will be so touchy too code
Or maybe
... the option just before a new round start : The admin of tournament can have the choice to validate the details before it's launch
Just on a quick interface : Nbr players by games /, Nbr Bye... to adjust and equilibrate
That's on this 3rd exemple, same as 2nd with adjustment
4P if possible, but for example for 9 I choose 3x3P
No more Bye
And... we can gain one round > R7
[fimg=https://imgur.com/a/8mlJYew]
Forgive my english, mystakes, and if I haven't understand anything

Re: [[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
Hi all, I am reviving this post since I want to highlight the demand for Group Stage with only 1 group! I have updated the main post with new formating and added stuff to the list.
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=77238 Please thumbs up this bug report to help! Currently at 15.

Re: [[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
There are some other options I'd like:
Repeated Tournaments: Right now, if I want to schedule a weekly tournament, I have to manually configure it each time. It would be nice if there was a one-click option to set up a weekly tournament, and then it stays active as long as I'm a premium member.
Tournament Series Leaderboard: If I create a bunch of tournaments with the same settings, the site should create leaderboards for me.

Yes, repeated tournaments would be so nice. I wish I could just link an existing tournament somewhere and have it copy all settings except the date or have the settings spit out a hex code that I can copy/paste into tournament creation to export/import the settings.FSKFSK wrote: ↑24 September 2025, 00:35 There are some other options I'd like:

Leaderboards sounds more like hobby tournament organizing to me. Some organizers create a hall of fame text that grows with top 3 from each prior tournament like in this one https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=423821 there has been no BGA effort to sort tournaments into series and link them in any way so I think this is a reach based on their effort put into tournaments lately.

Re: [[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
Adding to the list, for 1v1 (2 player) tournaments direct elimination, being able to set how many matches to be played between them (like 1, 3, 5) to determine winner for the next stage. or even in stage (final, semis, rest). This works specially for super fast games like Solstis, Patchwork, etc... For setting the whole tournament for 3 games but the finals for 5 (so the winner would be 2 out of 3, 3 out fo 5 respectively)

Re: [[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
Bumping this forum post again with an update from the community manager acknowledging the tournament update requests.
See here in their announcement post
https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 9&start=20
I recommend we wait for an update for simple tournament improvements that are realistic for their small team rather bombard them with difficult and niche requests.
If you do have any requests it is best to be clear and concise on what you want BGA to change. Avoid vague and generalized complaining for complaining sake. For example there is a 100 page forum post on the Elo system changes that is over 90% arguing and whining about little details that does the community no good IMO. There is no way a community manager can read that and decipher any meaningful message to give to the BGA devs.
Not directly related to tournaments, but does affect the rating levels for invites, a general BGA request as an example.
Add new Elo tier, separate 300-399 Elo and 400-499 Elo
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=13021 bug report here at 541 votes
I would like this so I can create more specific tournament rating requirements. Since most BGA games have randomness built in there is a large cluster of players in the 300-499 Elo range that are considered "Strong", but there a huge difference in skill and win rate from the top and bottom of the group. With a 150 Elo difference for example a 475 Elo player is expected to win over 70% of the time against a 325 Elo rated player.
Many games also lack enough players in the 500+ Elo Expert category to create "Expert Cup" tournaments with enough signups to function. 300+ Elo tournaments

It looks like the end of this sentence is missing. Is this a season finale cliffhanger?BananaHarambe wrote: ↑20 November 2025, 20:23 Many games also lack enough players in the 500+ Elo Expert category to create "Expert Cup" tournaments with enough signups to function. 300+ Elo tournaments

Oops. 300+ Elo tournaments are often too lenient on the lower end. 400+ Elo is a good middle ground for many games.Meeplelowda wrote: ↑20 November 2025, 22:33It looks like the end of this sentence is missing. 200-399 Elo rated cups might also make sense for some games.

Re: [[Request]] Most wanted updates to Tournaments
Reviving this old post for visibility and also to discuss improvements to tournament user interface (UI).
Making it easier to find you upcoming tournaments, in progress tournaments, and completed tournaments without being a settings wizard in the old menu interface would be a huge quality of life improvement for everyone involved in tournaments.
Repeating it again, allow 1 group for group stage https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=77238 , currently at 101 votes getting it to the 2nd page of the BGA website bugs! Quite an achievement for a tournament only request.
