People used to call it "play by mail", but i think asynchronus is fitting. Its just normal people wouldn't know what it meant.

You mail a card to the next person on the list(the actual physical card; shipping is pretty cheap for a single playing card), and then, when someone gets a four of a kind, they write a letter announcing this fact to everyone on the list, and then it's their job to reply as quickly as possible. Then the person who went out first checks the postmarks from the other players, and the player with the latest postmark is out. It sounds awful, but it's a lot of fun, I promise.
