Having played on both sides of the world, the only times I have ever won have been in Europe, even on scrappy internet compared to my high speed one at home in Aus. I am not a great player by any means, but it definitely makes a difference.

I'm confused - the OP mentioned Lost Cities which is not a game that has any kind of "fastest finger first" action. Meeplelowda mentioned Spot It (as an example, no one mentioned actually playing that), but aside from that, what games are people playing where latency matters here?

The OP bizarrely made a thread in the Spot It sub-forum that consisted solely of a link to this thread. No commentary. No description. Just a link. I'm guessing some people came here via that link.

Do those in France with lower latency wait a fraction of a second between moves in turn based games? Why does this matter? It matters when you have tens of games which adds up.

Let's say your latency is 900ms (it's probably not) and you've got 100 turns waiting for you. That's 90 seconds. It adds up to 90 seconds. Probably less, because your latency is probably not that long, and you probably don't always have 100 turns waiting (even with 100 consecutive games - I used to run about 60, and I think 48 turns waiting was the highest I ever saw).
I don't buy a morning coffee, but I'm pretty sure my husband who does wastes at least that much time waiting in line to get it.

I'm in Australia which is half way across the world from the French servers. I was wondering if it's possible to tell the lag or latency or if it's faster in Europe.
I think there used to be a test that you could do if it was slow on BGA but I've lost it. Can anyone help?
Wow I totally get it now. Previously I thought the issue was due to my network latency, however my network connection was high speed, now after trying this understood why I have been observing the latency in the Dobble it game.. it almost makes it impossible to win in such time constraint games. My latency for response from the server is between 300-450 ms
I’m in India. And I usually see friends from European countries in this game unlike other games, now u understand why, they have good response time due to the geo location of the server, that explains it.
Thanks for sharing this link and the opinion, it helped. Or I would have still complained about my network provider or connections and really frustrated in each game (of Dobble), others seems okay with minor latency

to give some perspective:
I'm from Germany, so pretty close to the French servers I guess, but I still have 120-150ms lag to bga. So 250ms isn't that bad in comparison.

Here's a video of the latency
https://youtu.be/HOuZgFl2iUI
As mentioned above it's more like 5 to 6 seconds between turns. Assume you have ten to twenty games waiting with each one needing a 2 second decision on average that's 75% dead time.

That video is showing 3-4 seconds between tables (not between two turns at the same table) - it's almost at the 2 second mark before you click the button to go to the next table and the video does show the next table loaded for a very short period at the end. There's a fair bit of data to load when you're switching tables, and even if your latency is fast, if there's a lot of packets, that's going to take some amount of time.
I'm ALSO in Australia. Your loading time seems pretty similar to mine, and to be honest, I've never particularly noticed it being a problem (except in the cases when it isn't that fast, but those aren't an everyday occurrence for me). In any case, I'm not sure what you expect BGA to do about it.
