I've seen A LOT of people folding live on free checks. But it's suposed to be forbidden. The interface shouldnt allow it.

Hadn't realised how misleading the wording there was. Voted for both those bugs.

It forces an extra turn for other players to place bid and the player obviously chooses not to give a free check for benefit of other players when they already decided to fold

That was me, I don't know all the rules yet so I didn't realize when it's free to keep going. It would help new players like me if the interface didn't show the fold option when it doesn't make sense. Or at least highlight a "recommended" option so players like me, trying to keep up, would guess correctly.

Never underestimate what people don’t understand. Over in backgammon, we commonly have people not doubling even when their opponent only needs one point for victory.

However, I would support removing the Fold option in this case, or at least asking for confirmation. You could file a suggestion in the Bugs, although there are a lot of bugs open for this game and I’m not sure how actively maintained it is.

In a nutshell.

You should ask why designer regards fold as a reasonable action in this case :D

While I believe most of the times it is not in the interest of the player to open fold, there are multiple reasons why player might do it, probably most of the times because of the inexperience or to save time for themself and everybody else.

Players open folding does impact hands Multiway. If early position open folds, middle bets then late positions can reraise more safely then there is no fear of checkraise or a cold call from the EP

If you open folded EP bc you didn't want players to see your hand, at that point there maybe should be an option to muck your hand instead of going to showdown if it checks thru river
But as stated above it can impact hands, so it can be used in multiple ways for that reason. There are times I want to make it easier for someone else to bet, as it is in my interest for people to lose the game before me regarding arena standing for example.
Or I just want to see how some people react in certain situations, which can be used later in the game.

In the end it is allowed in the rules, so use it to your benefit.

According to the rules of the Poker Tournament Directors Association, this is not allowed ("subject to penalty"). Rule 58.

In home games, people may of course play looser with this rule. IMO the action should not be allowed in the UI here on BGA, and most of all, the UI text and buttons must be fixed to state what actions are actually possible.

This continues to happen astonishingly frequently. Is there any other game on BGA where many players throw away scoring possibilities for no reason?
