Re: How to choose the playing order ?

Perhaps. I'll clarify:

In a 2-player game in which players alternate taking turns, "player order" means "who goes first". "Changing the first player" is essentially synonymous with "changing the player order.", because there is no "player order" in a 2-player game (other than deciding who goes first).

In a 3-player game, that is not the case. ABCABC etc and BCABCABCA has a different player going first, but the sequence in which the three players take their turns remains the same. B Follows A. C Follows B. We could also have ACBACB etc. The same player is going first, but the sequence has changed.

In a 2-player game it makes no sense to say, "the first player changed but otherwise the turn order remained the same."

I think maybe for a while after they launched the new tournament page it was not, but it sure seems possible now. Visit the main tournament page, go to the bottom, enter the game you want in the field and click “Create Tournament”, then pick the tournament format (for this test I chose “Elimination”), and then the very first drop-down under “Registration Settings” is to choose public or private. You can then choose a group or invite-only. Now, I haven’t gone so far as to finish the process, but from this it sure seems possible.

Traduction automatique :

That should allow for more structured seat rotation, though it is more complex to set up for a single session. But I have no experience with tournament creation, it is just an idea you may try.
Maybe that's a good idea :-) I'll give it a try
However I don’t think a tournament is the right solution here. There’s really only three kinds of tournaments you can hold: Elimination, which means not all of you would play subsequent games, and Swiss and Round Robin both only support two players at a time. (There’s also Groups Stage, but that starts the tournament with multiple groups, each of which runs through one of the three above stages, and the the winner(s) of each group go into a secondary tournament that is also one of the three above options).

You can't choose the playing order, in most games. I've seen a few that has it implemented as a game-specific option.

The playing order can either be random (default), or kept the same as in the previous game with the same players, in the case where BGA "detects a rematch". When you select to Propose Rematch, the play order is always the same, and the first player rotates. See: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 96#p235496

I think, unfortunately, that BGA also "detects" when the players (and game?) are the same and then also enforces the "rematch mechanism" even when you don't use the Propose Rematch option. I'm not sure if this is always the case, or sometimes, or what.

This "feature" can be disabled on a game to game basis by the game's developer. You can add a suggestion to the https://boardgamearena.com/bugs for the specific game, asking to disable this feature. You might look at https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=115496, description and its comment, for an example of what to ask for.

If the developer doesn't agree, or the game doesn't have an active developer, some possible workarounds might be:
- Try to create a new table without using Propose Rematch. As said above, maybe this never works, maybe it sometimes works. I don't know. If you look at the log it says "rematch detected" if it has kept the player order without randomizing it.
- Try to have another player create the next table and so on. I don't know if this makes any difference.
- Set up a tournament, as was suggested above.

I'm a bit tired so apologies if I'm not reading this correctly, but Swiss works perfectly fine with games of any player count.

Definitely not. I play some games in which I get matched against the same players a lot, and it does not rotate first player unless we specifically used the "invite to rematch" feature.

I do wish this existed, because I've had some games against the same player in which I kept going second when it's a massive and nearly insurmountable advantage to go first.

You were reading it correctly, and my apologies! I thought Swiss only did 2p.
