Search the picture on google and it shoulde be athens and Sparta. A 2007 game from Tom Dalgliesh. But then again it could be something else. It is just my guess.

I can see why you thought of Pente, but while the box art of Pente has a similar image on it, it's not the same one.
This image is a classical vase painting of Ajax and Achilles playing a game, but I'm not sure which game it's referring to.

E: The coloring seems off comparing to the normal images of the scene (normally blackfigured vase painting, now a redfigured/yellowfigured version), and looks quite close to the Polis: Fight for the Hegemony box art.

this painting has nothing to do with Athens and Sparta. It is a black-figure amphora that depicts an unknown ancient board game. by some it is considered to be some ancient predecessor of chess although this is widely considered unlikely. From ancient sources we only know the name of similar board games, they were called "pesseia" which means a game played with "pieces", possibly similar to modern chess pieces... It is likely that dice was used to move the pieces.
