Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
He’s baiting you all into a senseless conversation. Don’t catch it…
Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
What's your play then? Competing miner with mining guild? How are you gonna close out the game by Gen 10 with gen3 BPD? How is that making any sense for UNMI? Being super poor and not able to buy ecozone? Lolz. Yeah let's stripmine gen2.
Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
Phoblog pick is horrendously bad. You could never see a good space card most of the game and be dead in the water. Honestly i would never choose them unless i had titanium production in opener with a titanium dump target. Any science tag is fine because of the science award. You don't need ai in your hand to justify playing one science tag especially when its the only enabler for stripmine. You have to use the tools you are given and not just hope you open good space cards in draft. Cause no competent opponent is going to pass you any.
Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
There is risks I agree, what I often find out is that if they hate draft space tag I benefits over the course of the game more. And data have shown over and over Phobolog favors more than UNMI. I want to trust my game than going UNMI on Tharsis against MG.Attica451 wrote: ↑08 June 2026, 21:49Phoblog pick is horrendously bad. UNMI is not going for science, we don't even speculate on quantum, which I get to do by going Phobolog and take only 3 cards.
Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
On a more meta sense of this discussion, he is elo 402, I am pretty confident that I can win with Phobolog whatever it maybe. I am not so sure about UNMI, I don't have the same confidence. It's like the difference between IC and Credicor on Tharsis as power ranking goes.
On that front I am taking more risk with UNMI even before the cards have been dealt. I know you have your approach and style I have played with you before plenty, I respect that, this is how I see it.

Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
I think any capable opponent can win against my starting hand.
I certainly wasn't banking on my opponent handing me a win because his Elo is "only" 400. He's probably the best "Earth" player in the world, and definitely top 2. He has a good sense for strategy games.
You're all making good points. Whatever line I took had some weaknesses. Strip mine gives me a lot of metal production for which I have no immediate targets. But, with steel, I could compete for the good building cards instead of having little to do with them and needing to decide between hate draft or keep something marginally more useful.
With Phobolog, yeah, who's to say I'll get anything useful? If I pass gen 1 as Phobolog without using any of my titanium, I'm screaming out for my opponent to hate draft any useful space cards.
I saw someone mention something like, "What would we even be hoping for in the next draft, Io Mining or asteroid mining?"
And even if one of those does come up soon - then what? A gen 2 or gen 3 titanium dump that gives a couple points and more titanium to find a use for?

Re: I don't even like this game anymore.
You just have to be patient, thats how you compete at higher level, there is no future with UNMI against MG here. I would rather win by grind it out with phobolog than losing handily with UNMI on Tharsis from experience.
I looooove heavy strategy games, but I have no chance against you in Earth, unless you play the worst corp/faction or strategy in that game against me. He is amzing I am sure we all smart people, but I am not risking UNMI against MG with base prelude on tharsis. He has almost no chance against my phobolog, but certainly have something if i am playing UNMI stripmine lolz.

I make no claim as to being that good at TFM. I would classify myself as an experienced but still a filthy casual
.
In hindsight, phobolog probably would've been a better play; we did see a number of jovians and space cards in the midgame. They were pretty late though and I had a good start, barring energy problems. Starting with AI central and mars university in hand, along with the ability to ramp up steel production on turn 1 in this particular game is, I think, unbeatable if played by anyone with some amount of skill. Amongst people at equal skill level, and given the benefit of hindsight, there's no doubt in my mind there was no winning line of play no matter what FrankJones chose.

The biggest problem with UNMI is not even about its horrendous corp ability, but how poor she is. She is just poor, can't control anything, and you can't just wait because then you waste her only trick in the book which is get to TR 50 and SP out the game.
