If you don't care about ELO which I assume is the point of such a mode, why can't you just ignore it?

You can't have friendly mode in its current form enforce penalties, given it gets used for games that are bugged in Alpha etc. So you'd have to create a separate mode, that I can't see being that popular, because you can just pay no attention to ELO already.

Bga also understands and acknowledges this issue which is why players can’t fall below 100.

You are right. This would require a separate mode or bga making it possible for players to hide their elos. Which won’t happen bc there isn’t a huge outcry for change.

Many, many years ago ELO and timer was separated options. But at some point BGA decided that to many options is not good for players, that players get lost with to many options, or maybe even worse. So those options were combined into one.
Like many other BGA decisions, especially recent ones, I think that was BAD decision.

And a question to You: Have you made a proposal in that matter? Have you vote on someone else's proposal on that matter? Do you have a link? I will gladly vote for it.

How would it not be popular? There's lots of people who have ELO goals but may want to have some games where they can just relax and not worry about that. I'd assume that's why most people who use friendly mode use it.

People who don't care about ELO probably don't use friendly mode. Since they don't care, it makes no difference to them whether the mode incorporates ELO or not.

I don't use that option myself so can't vouch for exactly how it works, but maybe it helps with the experience you are looking for.
