I don't get why you think that the BGA implementation for collapse doesn't conform with the rules. The game has been playtested with the designer and collapse was checked specifically during this playtesting, so I'm pretty sure everything is by the book

Thanks, it did take some time to dig out those stats

Also, kudos to the designer for creating this nice game and listening very intently to players feedback!

He
thinks the BGA implementation doesn't conform with the rules because the rules stated in the official rulebook (which is also linked in the game description on here)
do have a different mechanism for collapsing than the implementation on here.
Maybe the designer changed changed his mind about the way this should work between writing the rules and having it implemented on here, who knows. But it is indeed weird to have different rules without any notice anywhere. I, too, searched for a way to do the collapsing described by the rules in my first games and didn't find one.

Whoa, when did that rulebook change?
This is indeed not the one used for reference during development (which read "If an entire row of suspects are deceased, that row or column is removed, and the board shrinks").
Thanks for pointing this out, I'll ask the publisher about it.

Thanks senator. Would be helpful if that was included in the game description!!

Yeah, that precise point is both a strength and a weakness of this game. It has been implemented several times, physically and virtually :
and each time the rules were tweaked according to the players' feedback, so a number of slightly diverging printed, video and pdf rules are being passed around.
I think it's great that an author has the humbleness to revise his original rules when some default has been pointed out, but with Noir it's come to the point that no one actually knows how they are supposed to play it properly. I just hope that the great publicity and thorough playtesting it will get on BGA will help come up with a definitive version !

I found a working link to the rulebook that was used as reference for the game development on BGA, so I updated the "Rulebook" link on the BGA game page so that new players read the version of the rules matching the implementation.

Also wrote an email to the publisher to ask about it.

What's happened to "Disguise"? It has always beenthe case that "Phoebe changes ID and Ryan is exonerated", but suddenly she "kills Ryan". Why the change? It makes the killer's built-in advantage even greater.

That's the key difference between standard mode and classic mode.
If you don't like classic the easiest solution is to not play it.

The game is seriously broken. I've never known a game that basically gives one player a guaranteed win (the inspector), assuming the killer isn't completely clueless/unlucky. Really I can't believe it has been released to the public in this state, it needs a proper redesign. And who on Earth play tested it? Just substandard in its current condition IMHO.
